It's almost that time of year again! Summer is coming to a close and it's about to be time to send the kids back to school. Living in Celina, back to school is an exciting time! It's great to get the kids back on a schedule, the fall weather is just around the corner, football season is close (GO BOBCATS!!). Here are a few things I would want to know as a parent who is new to the area or looking to move to Celina.
Celina is home to the Bobcats! We take that pretty seriously here! Our football team is the heart of the town but more on that in a bit. Celina ISD is a highly rated, public school district located in Celina TX. It is considered a "Destination District" encompassing 96 square miles, serving residents of Collin and Denton counties, as well as the communities of Alla and Weston. Celina ISD is located 40 miles north of Dallas and is currently one of the fastest growing public school districts in the state of Texas. Due to a reputation built upon not only academic excellence, but a wealth of state championships spread across their extracurricular programs, Celina ISD is preparing and meeting the challenges that cone with growth. The Celina School District has an enrollment of over 2,500 students with a district footprint that currently has 1 high school, 1 junior high, 2 elementary schools, and 1 early childhood/primary school. These campus configurations will continue to evolve as more families choose the Celina School District for their children's academic and extracurricular pursuits.
The Celina Bobcats are a 4A District, competing in a variety of sports. While all the sports programs in Celina are amazing, one thing is clear, the high school football team is at the top. It is one of the most successful programs in TX with a UIL- record of eight state titles and a 69- game winning streak. The Bobcats were the subject of the documentary The Power, Passion and Glory. A new state of the art stadium was just built a few years ago taking our game watching to a whole new level. Football is king here and it is apparent when Homecoming comes around. The whole town is decorated in Orange and White the Bobcats colors, and then there is the parade! The kids are dismissed early from school the Friday before the big game and the whole town gathers in and around the downtown square to watch the parade. The parade is made up of many floats carrying not only the varsity football players, cheerleaders, drill team and high school band, but also the football players and cheerleaders from K - JV. It is such a fun day for the whole town! The parade ends in the square followed by a pep-rally in the square. It feels like something out of a movie! It's truly one of the highlights of the school year!
There are so many options for back to school shopping in and around Celina. There is a shopping center right at Preston and 380 just 5 mins from Celina. It consists of shops such as Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Khols, and Dick's Sporting Goods.If you are looking for more boutique style shopping there are a few I highly recommend. The first is in Downtown Prosper, It's called Dawson + Claire. they have such cute clothing for your teenage girls. My next pick would be Willow House in downtown Celina. They too have cute boutique style clothing for young ladies at a reasonable price. Click on the links to check these boutiques out or you can follow them on Instagram.
Celina is also close to a Walmart in The Gates of Prosper as well as a Target in North Frisco for your school supply needs.
Celina is a great place to raise children. My son goes to O'dell Elementary in Celina, and we have been so pleased with our experience thus far. If you are looking for a warm, small town with the possibility of growth I couldn't recommend Celina more.
