Here are some of our favorite day trips right from Celina, Texas.
About an hour north of Celina is Lake Texoma. This great lake is ideal for fishing, swimming, and boating. You can also hike around the lake, bike on many of the trails, or explore some of the 50 parks that completely surround the water itself. It's a great place to go camping or just explore for the day. In addition to camping and biking, there are resorts and hotels, cabin rentals, horse trails, several marinas, cruises and charters, golfing, fantastic restaurants, hunting, and even casinos and annual events. About 2 hours southeast of Celina is Canton, Texas. This unique Texas town is known for First Monday Trade Days, home of the world-famous and largest flea market in America. They have year-round festivals, attractions, and shopping, but the flea market is definitely the highlight of this unique town. The First Monday Trade Days actually happen the weekend before the first Monday of the month, running Thursday through Sunday, so make sure that you schedule your trip around those dates. This massive market offers some of the most exciting home furnishings, antiques, and collectibles anywhere in the country. It has been around for over 150 years, featuring thousands of vendors from across the country offering a shopper's paradise where you'll find rare collectibles, decorations, arts and crafts, produce, jewelry, and much more. Of course, you can check out Canton any other time of the month for festivals and activities going on year-round.
While it's not too far away, you will want to spend several hours in Sundance Square. It's touted as one of the top things to do in downtown Fort Worth and recognized as one of the top downtown developments in the United States. Sundance Square spans 35 blocks in downtown Fort Worth with over 30 places to eat, a unique collection of stores, boutiques, live music, theater, comedy, and the beautiful Bass Performance Hall. This is definitely one of the best places to shop, dine, and enjoy theater and entertainment in all of Fort Worth. One trip certainly will not cover it all.
About 2 and a half hours south of Celina is Waco, Texas. From delicious barbecue to friendly neighbors, Baylor University, and the famous Magnolia Market & Silos, there's plenty to do, experience, and see. Magnolia Market has definitely put Waco on the map in a huge way. Designed and run by HGTV's Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines, the Magnolia Market complex is an essential part of your trip. It's located at the base of two historic silos and covers over 2 acres. You'll find wonderful home decor, delicious food trucks, gardening supplies, or you can hang out under the wooden tepee and enjoy a picnic on the lawn. If you visit the market from June through August, you can also look out for local vendor events and pop-ups showcasing regional goods.
